Oats for breakfast PLEASE
We know oats are a standard healthy breakfast option. They are high in soluble fibre which has numerous health benefits. The best types of oats to look for are rolled oats, raw oats or steel cut oats. These options have had the least amount of processing.
Not only do oats help with weight loss by bulking up meals and keeping you fuller for longer, soluble fibre also lowers the Glycemic Index (GI) of food and helps to control the release of glucose in the blood preventing you from getting glucose spikes as well as preventing your blood glucose from dipping too rapidly. For Diabetics, people wit Insulin Resistance or Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT), and people with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Oats is one of the beast breakfast options.
For exercising individuals, oats provide a sustained energy release that lasts a long time and does not cause spikes and sudden dips in energy.
It can also help reduce cholesterol as the soluble fibre makes the food form a jell in the gut which traps intestinal contense. In particular, it traps bile which helps us absorb fat in the gut, but bile is made in the body by the gal bladder and is made from cholesterol in the body. If you trap bile and it gets excreted you loose bile, which means you have to use up cholesterol in the body to replace the bile that was lost.
Because soluble fibre forms a jell in the gut, it also helps with diarrhoea to improve stool consistency to help form a solid stool.
